Parkinson’s Disease Research Study

We are recruiting individuals with Parkinson’s Disease to participate in an exercise research study, taking place in Homewood, AL.

EXERCISE: Everyone participating in the study will be guided thorough the PWR! Moves exercise program, led by a Physical Therapist specializing in Physical Therapy for individuals with Parkinson’s Disease.

VAGUS NERVE STIMULATION: Additionally, participants will be randomized into one of two groups: active vs. sham transcutaneous auricular Vagus Nerve Stimulation (taVNS). taVNS is a novel treatment that is FDA approved for the treatment of epilepsy and migraines. There is evidence to suggest that this treatment may be beneficial for individuals with Parkinson’s Disesase as well. Your participation in this study will help us learn more about this intervention and how it influences physical therapy interventions.

Treatment sessions will be 3x/week for 4 weeks in Homewood at the UAB Lakeshore Research Collaborative.

Breast Cancer Research Study

We are recruiting individuals with Stage I-IV Breast Cancer to participate in an sleep research study, taking place in the comfort of your own home.

VAGUS NERVE STIMULATION FOR INSOMNIA: Participants will be given a Vagus Nerve Stimulator, which is a portable device to be worn 15 minutes before bed, that could help decrease stress and improve sleep. Vagus Nerve Stimulation is a novel treatment that is FDA approved for the treatment of epilepsy and migraines. There is evidence to suggest that this treatment may be beneficial for individuals with insomnia as well. Your participation in this study will help us learn more about this intervention and how it influences sleep in individuals with Breast Cancer.

FitBit: individuals participating in this study will be provided with a FitBit to wear for 4 weeks that will track activity levels and sleep.
